Den norske kirke, for whom we have developed several websites, has singled out the Tactus Design website at Tynset church in Hedmark as being an example of an excellent website.

Developed in line with the church’s requirements, the site provides news items, archives, virtual tours and information pages in both English and Norwegian. It utilizes a web editing portal, administration possibilities that include the ability to create and delete email addresses and accounts and cross-browser coding that is in line with current W3C requirements.

“Tynset church is an important website for Tactus”, says managing partner Jon Baxendale. “In fact, we used the site as a bit of a showpiece for company: it was the first of several websites for the Church of Norway and we have enhanced it on behalf of the church to give others the chance to see how useful a church website can be.”

Tactus particularly enjoy developing information sites, and offer not only expert construction and coding, but also the chance to develop a graphic profile to suit customers’ needs. In this case, the church wanted a series of virtual tours, which we were happy to include in the package. For those interested in these, they should visit the site and click on the link Besøk kirkene våre in the top menu.

Many of our customers, especially musicians, like to have a little section of their websites that deal with current happenings: they might want to post a note about a forthcoming concert, for example. Similarly, sites we have build for churches usually have a news items section. These items usually include a responses section, where people can read and make a comment on anything they have read. In blogs, the news items are the same as blog entries.

You can create a news item by logging into the website using the instructions on the Welcome page, and under the Posts menu in the left-hand menu and choose add new. An editing window will appear. Simply write your text and click publish.

Some people are a little concerned about the comments feature, which, they think, might lead people to leave spam or make comments that they don’t want publishing.

All posts are moderated by the site administrator: once someone leaves a message, you will receive an email asking you to log on to the site and approve or delete the comment. These are usually shown as teasers, as in this site, although the choice and format is entirely up to you.

Simple as that!

We can also program your site to open to your welcome or home page or the news pages.

Tags are keywords, and for people running blogs or websites with a lot of information on the news/blog pages, words can be added to a list, which can be programmed to appear in one of the columns to the right of the page.

We have hadded tags to every news item here and a tag cloud in the column furthest right. Clicking on a keyword has the same effect as doing a search . . . all pages with the relevant tags will appear in this main column.

In the furthest right column (sidebar), you can see a calendar that is headed “News Archive”. This is a particularly useful feature for websites with many blog or news entries. The reader can scroll through the calendar and see what was published on which date.

The beauty about framework websites is that these can be placed in whichever sidebar you require. Similarly, the sidebars can be rearranged to suit your own requirements: you might want the main content area of the site, for example, to be in the centre, with the navigation and information features to be on either side. Similarly, you might also want to have both sidebars on the left of the screen.
